Stan Cinnamond has recently been appointed to the role of Director of Rugby at Civil Service (NI) Rugby Club. Stan, who was the Club’s Community Rugby Officer, and who has overseen the reestablishment and rapid growth of the Youth section at the club over the last two years, will now have a wider remit to provide an operational steer for rugby issues throughout all sections of the club.

Originally from Newcastle, County Down, Stan attended school in Dublin before completing a degree in Sports Studies at Jordanstown. Stan played for Malone Rugby Club and represented Ulster at Under 20 level. He later moved to England to study for a post graduate diploma in management studies (DMS), where he lived and played for several senior rugby union and rugby league clubs until he moved to Hong Kong for 7 years. He has a Masters degree from the University of Central Lancashire and has worked in sports management and sports development for almost 40 years.

Stan has coached a number of clubs at adult level in the UK and Hong Kong. At Lancaster University RLFC & RUFC, where he was Director of Sport, as well as University Rugby Football Club (Hong Kong) and the HKU student team, where he was Assistant Director of the Institute of Human Performance at the University of Hong Kong, and at Carnforth Rugby Club. He has held the post of Rugby Convenor for the Hong Kong Post Secondary Colleges Sports Association and has won the Hong Kong Rugby Union’s Development Coach of the Year Award.

Club Chairman Philip Anderson explained the club has benefited hugely already from Stan’s experience and his pedigree. The youth section has seen significant growth since Stan came on board two seasons ago. His enthusiasm is infectious and with big plans for the future now is the right time for Stan to take on the DoR role.
